INTRODUCING JAMES CURGENVEN
James Curgenven is a musician and PhD student based in Yorkshire and the Humberside. Born in Leeds, James is a working musician who is proficient at a variety of woodwind instruments.
Learning from many different sub-genres of Jazz, James is particularly interested in the 'Free Jazz' sub-genre. His music is a fusion of the avant-garde and contemporary with new-age. James is heavily influenced by musicians such as John Coltrane and Jan Garbarek and groups like the World Saxophone Quartet. His research focuses on the links between the creative process and a variety of cultural contexts.
James works as an educator with both Musica Kirklees and Bradford Arts and Music Service as well as privately. He has also been involved with teaching, giving lectures and running workshops at the University of Hull.
